The ALR is hiring a Recoveries Assistant
About us
The Art Loss Register is the world’s largest private database of lost and stolen art. Its range of services include the registration of losses, recovery services for the victims of theft and looting, and due diligence searching for museums, collectors, and the art trade. For more details, see our website at www.artloss.com.
The Role
We are looking for a Recoveries Associate to support our expanding recoveries team. The successful candidate will review artworks and cultural property as part of the due diligence process we carry out for clients. This involves researching possible issues relate to all types of claims such as theft, looting of cultural property, colonialisation, or the result of Nazi persecution, as well as civil disputes. The successful candidate will also be trained to assist in the active pursuit of recovery claims, representing claimants seeking to recover their property.
Alongside this our Recoveries Associates also help to manage the ALR’s database, assisting clients with the registration process and ensuring the quality of the loggings that are added to the database.
We are looking for someone with an interest in the art market who is curious in investigating past events where records are often imperfect. The work is fast paced, responding to the timelines of sales in the art market, and the successful candidate will need to be able to make evidence based decisions under pressure from clients.
The role requires strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to build and develop client relationships is essential. Additional languages are helpful but not essential in the role, with German being particularly valuable at present. Candidates with a strong interest in IT and the ability to consider its impact on the future development of due diligence databases will be looked upon favourably, but this is not an absolute requirement.
Note that although based in the ALR’s London office some travel will be required from time to time, including internationally, for example to assist in the ALR’s work with art fairs.
